Site leaders play an important role in the purpose and mission of NCDC. These organizations are committed to involving students in direct service in Evanston, Rogers Park, Uptown, and the Chicagoland areas as a whole. As a site leader, you will serve a primary role in developing mutually beneficial partnerships between the Chicago community and the Northwestern campus. If you have any questions at all, please contact ncdccommunityoutreach@gmail.com.

The application is live. It is due Friday, May 17th. We’ll be conducting interviews (based on a sign up to a doodle that is included on the application) in the NCDC Office from 19th – 23rd.

Artsfest May 18th!

NCDC’s Arts Fest is an on-campus showcase of performance, interactive, and display art produced by Evanston community members and Northwestern students. This year, we’re bringing Artsfest to you with more interactive craft booths and student performances than ever before. Artsfest will also have a “Before I Die” exhibit this year in Norris (http://beforeidie.cc/), and best of all, admission is FREE.

Come out for an afternoon of art, music, and fun on the ground floor of Norris, May 18th from 1-3:30pm.

Art Activities Include:
-Interactive mural

-DIY mug, flower vase, picture frame, etc
-Mini canvas paintings
-And much more!

Faces of Youth Homelessness: Real Experiences of Chicago-Area Young People

Come listen to inspiring stories of homeless youth from the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. Speakers will share how they become homeless, their journey through homelessness, and what they are doing now to advocate for young people currently in the struggle.

The panel will also feature Fr. David Kelly, a founder of the Precious Blood Ministry Center for Reconciliation. The center seeks out and responds to violence, especially as it is found among youth (gang violence) and in the midst of racial barriers that divide a community. They reach out to victims, offenders, and the community in an effort to promote healing and reconciliation.

Faces of Youth Homelessness is sponsored by Center for Civic Engagement, Sheil Catholic Center, and Northwestern Community Development Corporation.

Wednesday, February 20 at 6:00-7:30 pm in the Wildcat Room at Norris (101A&B, 1st FL)

Pizza and soda will be provided after the event.

Senior Gala

This year’s Senior Gala is on Saturday, Feb. 23rd from 1:30-4pm at the Northshore Retirement Hotel! Senior Gala is a luncheon and dance put on for the senior citizens in our community. The theme will be The Fabulous 50′s, and we’d love for everyone to dress up for the event! Come dance the afternoon away and meet some new faces! NCDC and Peace Project Present: Life After Death

Join Peace Project and NCDC on Tuesday, Nov. 13 in welcoming Damien Echols and Lorri Davis to campus, as they recount their harrowing experience with the criminal justice system. Convicted of a triple murder in West Memphis, Arkansas, Damien spent 18 years on death row before his exoneration in 2011. His struggle for a fair trial, which was spearheaded by his wife Lorri, has been supported by high profile artists such Johnny Depp, Henry Rollins, and Natalie Maines, and has been featured on HBO.

Today, Echols and Davis share a deeply moving and profound account of their fight to prove his innocence, giving a voice to those who are persecuted for the way they look or anyone who has experienced an injustice. Their story gives hope to those who know what it’s like to struggle against seemingly insurmountable odds.

In 2012, West of Memphis, the film they co-produced along with director Peter Jackson and producer Fran Walsh – both long-time supporters – premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It will be released to theaters in late December. His memoir, Life After Death, to which Johnny Depp has optioned the movie rights, will be published in September 2012.
