Centro Romero Adults

  • Area: Rogers Park
  • Issues: Help teach ESL and citizenship classes by doing individual tutoring and helping the clients.

Heartland Alliance

  • Area: Uptown
  • Issues: Volunteers teach ESL and play with the children, who are mostly non-English speaking and non-American, offering a unique mentoring and tutoring experience.
  • Site leaders: Laura Reid (laurareid2007@u.northwestern.edu) and Sinead Flood (sineadflood2012@u.northwestern.edu)

Chinese Mutual Aid

  • Area: Uptown/Argyle
  • Issues: Tutors for adults teach reading and writing, while tutors for children work in the Family Literacy Program and help children with their assignments.
  • Site leaders: Jessie Chen (jessiechen2008@u.northwestern.edu) and Alice Feng (alicefeng2007@u.northwestern.edu)

Centro Romero After-school

  • Area: Rogers Park
  • Issues: Tutor kids from ages 7–12. Volunteers help with homework and play games afterward.

South East Asia Center

  • Area: Rogers Park
  • Issues: Help with homework and play with grade-school children in this after-school center for children of recent immigrants.
